Authenticity

"Jesus answered him, 'I have spoken publicly to the world... and in secret I have said nothing.'" John 18:20

There is a lot that can be taken from this scripture but earlier events of the day caused me to think of the need for us to be transparent with others. We should not hide who we truly are - the good or the bad. We ought to be open and honest about our failings, weaknesses, passions, joys, successes... I think that when we do this, it makes our faith that much more attractive. People see that we are not perfect and we don't pretend to be. If we are able to be real with others, it takes away that element of self-righteousness that so often is seen in devout Christians and so often turns others away. It allows people to see our brokenness and how the Lord can still use us; How without him we are nothing but with God, we can do all things. When we have this kind of authenticity to our faith, God's glory can be seen more clearly in us.
