Feast of Guardian Angels

“For our struggle is not with flesh and blood but with the principalities, with the powers, with the world rulers of this present darkness, with the evil spirits in the heavens.” (Eph 6:12)

I am convinced that in the shameless selfishness, materialism, and hedonism seen all around us, the devil and his minions have a firm grasp on our culture today. And perhaps Satan’s greatest achievement is the commonly held belief that the spiritual realm doesn’t even exist, that Satan himself doesn’t exist.
But as most people will admit, there is still that internal struggle for what is good and right. We feel at times pulled in two different directions, or as Saint Paul puts it, we do the things that we don’t want to do. For the Christian, it is clear that there is more going on than what meets the eye. And in these times of struggle or weakness we ought to call not only on the Holy Spirit for help, but on our guardian angel as well. When our own strength is not enough to overcome the lures and temptations of the evil one, we need only to rely on the power of God and the aid of the saints and angels. On this feast day of guardian angels, let us not forget to pray to, and ask assistance from our guardian angel in the daily spiritual battles of our lives.
